It really feels like just yesterday the Mets were on the edge of clinching the NLDS. Similarly, I was on the precipice of my twentieth burger to rank, and I took to Twitter with my question. I was half hoping it could be somewhere I could kill a multitude of birds with one sandwich (a burger is a sandwich argue with the wall). Can it be an easy solo dining spot that will playing the game AND be in the vicinity of The Bell House, where I was seeing a podcast taping at 8pm?
I had only heard of Dram Shop while mapping out those exact requirements and getting a single co-sign was all I needed to pop it in the cal.
I rolled up with an hour+ to kill and perched on a stool at the open window sill, a little sad to not be at the bar proper to join in on game time camaraderie. But then again, I was there on business.
I ordered the single classic: patty, pickles, lettuce (shredduce), tomato, diced onion and mayo on a sesame bun. The combo with fries was $16.25 but if you’re looking for a quicker bite, you can pick up just the burger around lunchtime for $9!
The burger came out of the kitchen looking like something you’d get after asking a 4th grader to draw one, in the best way possible. Unfussy and basic, the patty was smashed thin but not quite as thin as its Blue Collar peer, creating a middle ground of slight crust while still having enough body to stay juicy. My personal favorite part of this burger was the roll cut done to the pickle - a greater surface area engineering a higher PPB (pickle per bite).
While the larger bun and shredduce created some mess at the end of my meal, the Dram Shop burger was altogether a positive experience. I went on my way to the Perfect Person live show and refreshed the score on the Mets game just in time to watch the grand slam runs populate on my browser. A perfect evening!Â
As far as ranking goes, I’ll nestle Dram Shop at number 10, between Rippers and 4 Charles. I’m excited to share my updated ranking at the end of this year - just nine more editions of Burger Diva between now and 2025!
